Trek Overview

The Monal Top Trek is one of the most scenic and lesser-known Himalayan treks in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand. Located near Sari Village, this trek offers breathtaking views of the Chaukhamba, Kedarnath, Neelkanth, and Bandarpoonch peaks along with dense oak and rhododendron forests.

Monal Top gets its name from the Himalayan Monal, the vibrant state bird of Uttarakhand that is often spotted in this region. The trail passes through peaceful forests, alpine meadows, and beautiful campsites, making it a perfect short trek for beginners and nature lovers.

One of the biggest attractions of the trek is the 360-degree panoramic Himalayan view from Monal Top. During winter, the trail is covered with snow, turning the trek into a magical snow adventure. In spring and summer, the forests bloom with colorful rhododendrons and alpine flowers.

Because of its short duration and stunning views, the Monal Top Trek is ideal for weekend trekkers, beginners, and photographers who want to experience the Himalayas without a long expedition.

Day 1: Dehradun to Wan Village (8,000 ft)

  • Drive Distance: 280 km (Approx. 9-10 hrs)
  • Route Highlights: Scenic drive via Rishikesh, Karnaprayag & Lohajung
  • Stay: Guesthouse/Camping in Wan

Day 2: Wan Village to Suneli Dhar (9,300 ft)

  • Trek Distance: 7 km (Approx. 5-6 hrs)
  • Terrain: Gradual ascent through oak & rhododendron forests
  • Stay: Camping at Suneli Dhar

Day 3: Suneli Dhar to Monal Top to Kukina Khal (12,000 ft)

  • Trek Distance: 7 km (Approx. 3-4 hrs)
  • Highlights: Breathtaking views from Monal Top, meadows & ridgelines
  • Stay: Tents at Kukina Khal

Day 4: Kukina Khal to Wan Village

  • Trek Distance: 5 km (Approx. 3-4 hrs)
  • Terrain: Descend through dense forests & meadows
  • Stay: Guesthouse/Camping in Wan

Day 5: Wan Village to Dehradun

  • Drive Distance: 280 km (Approx. 9-10 hrs)
