Trek Overview
The Kareri Lake Trek is one of the most beautiful and beginner-friendly Himalayan treks located in the Dhauladhar range of Himachal Pradesh. Starting from the peaceful Kareri village near Dharamshala, this trek takes you through dense pine forests, traditional Himachali villages, wooden bridges, alpine meadows, and crystal-clear mountain streams.
The highlight of the trek is Kareri Lake, a pristine high-altitude freshwater lake formed by the melting snow of the Dhauladhar mountains. Because of its rocky base, the lake water remains extremely clear, allowing trekkers to see the bottom even at significant depths. Surrounded by dramatic snow-clad peaks and lush meadows, the lake creates a breathtaking setting that feels untouched and serene.
The trail to Kareri Lake runs alongside the Nyund Nallah, a mountain stream that flows with glacial water, adding to the beauty of the journey. Trekkers often cross small wooden bridges and walk through charming grazing lands used by local shepherds known as Gaddis.
This trek is ideal for beginners, weekend trekkers, and nature lovers who want to experience the Himalayas without undertaking an extremely difficult climb. The route offers magnificent views of the Dhauladhar range, beautiful campsites, and peaceful natural surroundings.
Camping near the lake under a sky full of stars and waking up to the reflection of mountains on the lake’s crystal-clear surface is an unforgettable experience for every trekker.
